Republic UK and the Edinburgh 'coronation lite'
Republic UK is taking pledges for a protest in Edinburgh on July 5th when King Charles will be visiting the city for a special ceremony that is a mini-coronation. The last time this happened was in June 1953. The Queen was criticised for wearing street clothes when presented with the Crown:

Nigel Farage and two monarchs
Back in 2019, Nigel Farage insisted that he was a ‘big royalist’ and wanted the Queen to reign for years. He admitted to having run ins with Prince Charles, whom he calls 'Charlie boy', and criticised him for telling a 2008 EU summit that the North Polar ice cap could disappear completely by 2015. I wonder what King Charles thinks of Nigel Farage! Nigel meets the Queen in 2007:

Laurence Fox played Prince Charles
A TV programme about Prince Charles, Camilla and Diana called Whatever Love Means was shown in 2005. Prince Charles was played by Laurence Fox, who recently founded the Reclaim Party and who will be standing for election in Uxbridge and South Ruislip on July 20th. “There were three of us in this marriage”:

An interesting book that I recently spotted again on my bookshelf is The Prince and the Paranormal (1986) by journalist John Dale. The inside cover reads: Since first hitting the headlines, Prince Charles's interest in mysticism, faith-healing and paranormal phenomena has been the subject of intense debate. Though he has recently tried to play down his involvement with 'occult sciences' it is clear that they are a source of profound fascination that has led to a number of extraordinary adventures, from alleged ghost-hunting expeditions through the corridors of Windsor Castle to a secret spiritual pilgrimage to a remote region of Kenya, inspired by the ideas of Laurens van der Post, the distingushed novelist and student of Jung. Such experiences have served to strengthen Charles's beliefs in psychic and spiritual phenomena – beliefs which many would consider irrational or even dangerous.
But Charles is far from being the only member of the Royal Family to have immersed himself in the domain of the unexplained. In fact, a preoccupation with the spirit world has been passed on from generation to generation in the House of Windsor like a secret heirloom. Queen Victoria, for instance, has long been suspected of having been an active Spiritualist. When she asked to visit the dying Disraeli, he is alleged to have muttered, 'No, it is better not. She will only want me to take a message to Albert.'
The question as to whether one of his ancestors was a werewolf/vampire (George III) is briefly discussed, through the link to the medical condition porphyria.
I'm sure there are some more interesting leads here in spite of the fact that it was published almost forty years ago. Christopher Lee is briefly mentioned as a patient of spiritual healer Ted Fricker.

The Prince and the Paranormal
This is a very good lead. I see that this book is in the Open Library, so I will be able to read it for nothing! It sounds like something that Avacyn would be interested in too. “Charles is far from being the only member of the Royal Family to have immersed himself in the domain of the unexplained” There is a post about the Queen Mother in this connection – I think on the Sussex thread. I will see what I can find.

American shock jock Howard Stern wasn't much impressed with the Coronation and likened King Charles III and his Queen Consort to 'vampires'. Heads may roll if Howard Stern ever visits the U.K.
The shock jock slammed the U.K.’s newly-crowned King Charles III and his wife Queen Camilla in his radio show on Monday, calling the king a “pussy” and the royal couple “vampires.”
“England’s got to get a grip on themselves,” Stern said. “I understand maybe it brings in tourism but Jesus H Christ. First of all Prince Charles is a pussy. That’s number one. And people are acting – the whole ceremony they’re acting like that f-ing guy went to war or something and then beat up all the other people.”

A new look at an old post
Something I posted on another thread in March 2018 seems worth another look in the light of The Prince and the Paranormal: Prince Charles’ spiritual side “Under the influence of van der Post and his circle, Charles began exploring vegetarianism, sacred geometry, horticulture, educational philosophy, architecture, Sufism. He received Jungian analysis of his dreams from van der Post’s wife, Ingaret. He visited faith healers who helped him uncork ‘a lot of bottled feelings.’ Staying with farmers in Devon and crofters in the Hebrides, he played at being a horny-handed son of toil. He travelled to the Kalahari Desert and saw a ‘vision of earthly eternity’ in a herd of zebras. On his return from each of these spiritual and intellectual adventures, he sought to share the fruits of his inquiries with his people… ‘I have come to realize,’ he told an audience in 2002, ‘that my entire life has been so far motivated by a desire to heal—to heal the dismembered landscape and the poisoned soul; the cruelly shattered townscape, where harmony has been replaced by cacophony; to heal the divisions between intuitive and rational thought, between mind and body, and soul, so that the temple of our humanity can once again be lit by a sacred flame.’” www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/04/10/where-prince-charles-went-wrongThere was a time when all this would have seemed very promising if not impressive, but after reading about all the billionaires he sponges off I no longer think that he is a cut above all the others in his family. Three in this marriage too? Camilla is making a sign with her hands that some people say has a special meaning. Prince Charles with the Dalai Lama:

Prat, twit and idiot: another blast from the past
A post from February 2018 is interesting in the light of Prince Charles's recent succession to the throne. Laurence Fox called our new king an oaf, which supports what he is called in the NYT article. Prince Charles and the succession to the throne The New York Times produced a very critical article about Prince Charles and his suitability for the throne in April last year. It suggests that the best way he can serve his country is to remove himself from the succession: “Prince Charles…is a deeply unpopular man. Writers in both the conservative and the liberal press regularly refer to him as ‘a prat,’ ‘a twit,’ and ‘an idiot, with no apparent fear of giving offense to their readership. In a 2016 poll, only a quarter of respondents said that they would like Charles to succeed the Queen, while more than half said they would prefer to see his son Prince William crowned instead. Even among those who profess to think him a decent chap, there is a widespread conviction that he does the monarchy more harm than good. ‘Our Prince of Wales is a fundamentally decent and serious man,’ one conservative columnist recently wrote. ‘He possesses a strong sense of duty. Might not it be best expressed by renouncing the throne in advance?’” www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/04/10/where-prince-charles-went-wrongI can understand why people don’t think that Prince Charles would make a good king, but would Prince William be any better? Those words, prat, twit and idiot, apply to more than one member of the royal family! Which one of these princes would make the best king?

Laurence Fox wants a republic
In 2021, Laurence Fox said that the Queen should be the last monarch as Prince Charles was an oaf! All very nice in theory, but I want details on how he plans to achieve this. Talk is cheap, I want to see a clear plan for how to make it viable. Ending the Monarchy has major implications, as it means completely restructuring and altering the entire political system. One very good reason why it has not been done already.

Ninny, whinger, and tantrum-throwing dilettante!
This old post contains some more serious criticisms of our king: Charles the petulant, peevish prince The New Yorker article quoted in the succession thread contains material from a new biography about Prince Charles: Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life by Sally Bedell Smith. The article is best read directly; these extracts give an idea of what to expect: “The man we encounter here is a ninny, a whinger, a tantrum-throwing dilettante, ‘hopelessly thin-skinned . . . naïve and resentful.’ He is a preening snob, ‘keenly sensitive to violations of protocol,’ intolerant of ‘opinions contrary to his own,’ and horribly misled about the extent of his own talents. (An amateur watercolorist, he once offered Lucian Freud one of his paintings in exchange for one of Freud’s; the artist unaccountably demurred.) He is a ‘prolix, circular’ thinker, ‘more of an intellectual striver than a genuine intellectual,’ who extolls Indian slums for their sustainable way of life and preaches against the corrupting allure of ‘sophistication’ while himself living in unfathomable luxe. (He reportedly travels with a white leather toilet seat, and Smith details his outrage on the rare occasions when he has to fly first class rather than in a private jet.) “ www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/04/10/where-prince-charles-went-wrongAll this sounds very likely to be true. Maybe he inherited the intolerance of opinions other than his own from George V.

How to get rid of the monarchy?
“Ending the Monarchy has major implications, as it means completely restructuring and altering the entire political system. One very good reason why it has not been done already.” Getting rid of the monarchy and implementing a republic certainly is much easier said than done. Republic UK wants an elected Head of State and changes to the British Constitution. They suggest looking at how it all works in other countries. Maybe the monarchy will implode of its own accord. That would solve half the problem!

An unexpected supporter for a British Republic
The famous and wealthy Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie believed that the American system of government was superior to the British one. In the early 1880s he bought many British newspapers, all of which were to advocate the abolition of the monarchy and the establishment of "the British Republic". In his own words: “The Republic of England, when it comes, will excel all other republics as much as the English monarchy has excelled all other monarchies.” Ironically, he was known as the King of Steel and he said this:
