Blue and orange emerged as a separate theme when we were investigating orange, orange and black and orange and purple references.
It was only later that we came across the term ‘blue and orange morality’, the definition of which renewed interest in and added a new dimension to this theme.

It started off on another forum, when we started looking at the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. With references to Ecclesiastical purple, and heathen orange, as I recall.

Blue and orange morality aka orange and blue morality
‘Blue and orange morality’ first appeared in the world of people such as writers who create fantasy worlds and anime, manga and video game designers. They invented it to describe the mindset of aliens, whose morality would be very different from ours - perhaps even incomprehensible. The expression has since been extended to cover the way that real life people such as psychopaths and sociopaths see the world. Religious fanatics who commit terrorist atrocities are an example of such deviant human beings. Blue and orange morality is a moral framework so outside the human ideas of right and wrong and human values that it is incomprehensible to us. It is often discussed on creative writing forums by people who are trying to create, describe and get inside the minds alien characters for their games and stories. Have you ever come across this Avacyn ? “As tvtropes states, blue and orange morality has real life examples in the form of people who lack empathy and base their decisions and personal morality on concepts other than 'good and evil'. Psychopaths and narcissists, for example, usually base their own concept of morality on ideas that revolve around maximizing personal pleasure and using others for their personal beliefs on what is the 'greater good'. Many sociopaths who have been interviewed had no clue why what they were doing was considered wrong by the standards of normal people and provide a pretty logical argument for why they believe their actions are justified without turning towards some traditional justification such as simple greed or lust.“ www.debate.org/opinions/can-real-blue-and-orange-morality-exist-in-humanity?nsort=3&ysort=5So what these people do may make sense to them on their own terms.

I personally have not encountered the term, but I could see if I could find something, if you wish. I was just wondering whether you had ever discussed getting inside a completely alien mind-set with any of your fellow writers. If not, there are much more important things to do. I believe that this term was first used by games creators etc. around 2009.

Orange and blue in Manchester for Queen Victoria
“In 1851 Queen Victoria and Prince Albert paid their first visit to Manchester and Salford. This was the first visit of a monarch to the region for a century and a half… The following report of the Queen’s visit appeared in the Orange and Blue Banner: ‘The Queen’s Visit to Manchester - On Friday 10th, a glorious day for all true and faithful subjects, was in an especial manner, a great day for the Protestant Association of Loyal Orangemen of the North Western Province of England. At the head of the many associated bodies assembled to honour the Queen, stood five times three hundred men, led on by Bro’s Gibson, G.S., Redhead, G.C., and Nicholls, D.M. of Manchester, who were amongst the first and foremost to welcome the arrival of the Royal Family, ‘shouting with a great shout’, the Chowbent Orange Band playing the National Anthem as the Royal carriage passed by..." www.manchesterorange.co.uk/History/queen-victoria-manchester-1851

Blue and orange for the Queen’s visit to Manchester
The Queen went to a children’s hospital in May to visit some young victims of the Manchester bombings. She usually wears strong, bright colours so that she stands out in the crowds. Her hat is often the same colour as her coat though.

The Queen’s visit to Manchester: a very strange mistake
THE DAY’S TOP NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL NEWS By NBC “Queen Victoria of England visited young survivors of the Manchester bombing on Thursday, four days after 22-year-old Salman Abedi killed 22 people and injured 59 others with a bomb at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.” www.nbcbayarea.com/.../Queen-Victoria-Visits-Survivors-of-Manchester-Bombing-4... NBC eventually corrected the mistake and changed the name to Queen Elizabeth after putting the article on many of their regional websites. This could just be a mistake by an ignorant or careless American journalist, but maybe there is some hidden meaning here.

Blue & orange London Bridge shirt again
When expanded, Prince George’s shirt looks similar to the London Bridge shirt featured above. Softer colours, smaller checks, but still much the same. Just a coincidence?

Big Orange wins the big prize
Big Orange pipped last year's victor Order Of St George (jockey in blue and orange) by a short head in an epic finish to win the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June 2017: The Queen presents the prize to the winning jockey – note the blue & orange in the background: By coincidence, there is a horse called ‘Big Blue’ at Denver Airport, home of notorious murals and secret tunnels:

Benjamin Disraeli’s visit to Manchester and the Orangemen
There are posts about Queen Victoria’s visit to Manchester, and Queen Elizabeth also visited that city to see the bombing victims. Blue and orange featured in those posts. I have been looking at the life of Benjamin Disraeli, and see that in 1872 he too visited Manchester. He was in opposition at the time. He went there to attend a demonstration of Orange Lodges, and became an honorary Orangeman himself: “Many of the banners must have been new for the occasion. There were at least three with full-length portraits of Mr Disraeli; one, which belonged to the Bacup Conservative and Constitutional Association, created a great deal of enthusiasm. It was of dark blue silk, with a rich orange border, and in the centre a full-length portrait of Mr Disraeli... Some enthusiastic members distinguished themselves by shouldering their umbrellas like pikes with oranges stuck upon the points... gorgeous sashes of blue and blue and orange were worn by many of the chief personages ... The crowning honour of the day, however, was reserved for a Salford Orange Lodge named the Disraeli Loyal Orange Lodge, to whom the right hon. gentleman, exhibiting a due sense of the honour conferred upon him in the adoption of his name, said, ‘That was one of the greatest distinctions I ever received, and I hope I shall be a loyal brother.'" This contemporary sketch shows the three banners mentioned above: "Print showing thousands of Orangemen in their traditional sashes, some with top hats and large Orange Banners watching Bro. Benjamin Disraeli address them." www.manchesterorange.co.uk/History/benjamin-disraeli-manchester

Terry Pratchett’s Wee Free Men
Aka the Nac Mac Feegle. Unlike Terry Pratchett's Elves, which certainly appear to have a blue & orange morality, they are very amusing. They all have red hair, and they are blue because they are tattooed.

Richard Dadd and the orange and blue picture
When both the Geldofs and orange/blue tones were being featured on threads in the old forum, the BBC synchronously put out an article that featured a relevant picture. I posted about it because the man in a dress reminded me of the type that Paula Yates and Peaches favoured! It is said to be a self-portrait of the artist. The painter was Richard Dadd, who was incarcerated in 1843 as a ‘criminal lunatic’. “He was not well. Friends and family suspected heatstroke or some sort of mental crisis. He went with his father back to his childhood home in Kent - and it was there, as they walked in Cobham Park near Gravesend, that he murdered his father. Dadd had been under the delusion that he was the son of the Egyptian god Osiris - and that his father was, therefore, an impostor.” Just one more coincidence: “This final work from Richard Dadd is an oil painting said to be of Dr William Orange - Broadmoor's superintendent from 1870. But photos of Dr Orange have emerged recently, casting doubt on the identity of this man.” www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-34722937

Blue/Orange the play
The stage play Blue/Orange was written by Joe Penhall. Here is a summary: “In a London psychiatric hospital, an enigmatic patient claims to be the son of an African dictator - a story that becomes unnervingly plausible. An incendiary tale of race, madness and a Darwinian power struggle at the heart of a dying National Health Service, Joe Penhall's multi award-winning play premiered at the National Theatre in April 2000.” The patient also claims that he sees oranges as blue. There are many striking posters for this play: ‘The balance of sympathy constantly shifts’ … Daniel Kaluuya in Blue/Orange.

Blue & orange shoes and socks for men
Just for fun. “Vibram Five Fingers Kso Shoes Blue Orange For Men” “Burlington Manchester Argyle Socks - Royal Blue/Orange/Blue” Manchester again... They should go well together: I have only ever seen two men wearing shoes like this, and the colour was mostly black.
