St. George Wharf Tower and yet another Russian tycoon
We have come full circle. The fatal helicopter crash involving the St. George Wharf Tower at Vauxhall was the start of this web of connections. The Tower was under construction at the time but is now finished. Many of the flats have been bought as an investment opportunity by overseas billionaires and are often unoccupied for much of the time. There a huge penthouse with spectacular views at the top: “The five-storey penthouse at the top — costing £51 million ...— is owned by a firm believed to be run by Russian oligarch Andrei Guriev, whose family already own Witanhurst in Highgate, North London, the biggest mansion in London after Buckingham Palace.” www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3609761/Tower-greed-Bought-foreign-plutocrats-51m-flat-skyscraper-s-symbol-Britain-s-sold-soul-super-rich.htmlThe Tower and the Thames:

John Buchan, Governor General of Canada Lavendel ’s recent posts on the York thread about royal associations with Canada have reminded me of yet another connection. There was talk at one time of making Prince Andrew Governor General of Canada. This came to nothing. Although the title has been held by royals in the past, since the Queen came to the throne all Canadian governors general have been born in Canada. It is understandable that the Canadians should want one of their own people to hold this post. Way back, we discussed the relationship between Germany and Turkey at the time of the First World War. There were also many posts about green clothes. There topics came together in John Buchan’s spy thriller Greenmantle. John Buchan was much more than a novelist. He was appointed Governor General of Canada in 1935 by King George V. He died in 1940 and was immediately followed by the Earl of Athlone, brother-in-law to George V. John Buchan and the 1939 royal tour of Canada
John Buchan/Lord Tweedsmuir appears to have had a good relationship with King George V. He wrote the commemorative books The King’s Grace (1910 - 1935) and The People's King: George V: a Narrative of Twenty-five Years.Favourites sometimes get ousted when there is a new monarch, but John Buchan survived some drastic changes in 1936, the year of the three kings. As Governor General, he is said to have played a key role in organising George VI’s very successful royal tour of Canada in 1939. This was the first tour by a reigning British monarch, and it was designed to build support for Britain in the impending war against Nazi Germany. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth arriving in Vancouver, and with John Buchan and his wife Lady Tweedsmuir in Ottawa:

King George V, Sir Edward Grey and WWI Avacyn you mentioned Lady Jane Grey recently. Although I couldn’t think of anything relevant involving her, I was reminded of someone else, someone who has a few associations with recent topics. Sir Edward Grey, Foreign Secretary from 1905 to 1916, is well known for his comment on the eve of the First World War: "The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our life-time."
He had a meeting with King George V two days before the war officially started: “The King, mindful of his position as a constitutional monarch, made no public declarations about the situation in Europe in the lead-up to the conflict. But in the newly-disclosed meeting, the King informed Sir Edward it was ‘absolutely essential’ Britain go to war in order to prevent Germany from achieving ‘complete domination of this country’. When Sir Edward said the Cabinet had yet to find a justifiable reason to enter the conflict, the King replied: ‘You have got to find a reason, Grey.’” www.telegraph.co.uk/history/world-war-one/10991582/Revealed-how-King-George-V-demanded-Britain-enter-the-First-World-War.htmlThis makes me wonder whether something similar has been happening with the current monarch and Brexit! King George V and Sir Edward Grey:

All the fives Lavendel you mentioned some recent Cambridge connections with the number five. I am not sure about this. Five is a very significant number that is often used for groups mainly because we have five digits on one hand. Hands are a major topic in the Sussex thread! Five-year plans for economic development are indeed very common - except that the efficient Germans had four-year plans! The senior royals may have a five-year plan to reorganise and reinvent themselves. Five is ‘V’ in Roman numerals. V for Vancouver? Have you seen the film V for Vendetta? It was based on a graphic novel by Alan Moore in which the royal family consists only of the young Queen Zara, who is just a puppet of the neo-fascists. Alan Moore also wrote From Hell, which is about Jack the Ripper. There is a book about the Ripper’s victims called The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper. There was also the TV series called V which was about reptilians who passed for human. magpiejack posted something about the “ Five Eyes” intelligence alliance. They are spying on everyone! Thomas Markle is being interviewed on Channel 5 tonight.

The Rothschilds and the number five
The banker Meyer Amschel Rothschild had five sons. Each of them established a bank in a different country, so there were branches in Frankfurt, Naples, Vienna, Paris and London. The Rothschild family has been involved with British royal family since Nathan became banker to the Prince Regent, later George IV, who was a major gambler and spendthrift. There is a conspiracy theory that Nathan’s son Leopold was the father of Queen Victoria, and another one that Leopold’s son Natty was the father of Queen Victoria’s children! The Rothschilds later took the symbols of five arrows, and they currently have various funds and investment companies with Five Arrows in the name. The five arrows give a ‘unity is strength’ message: could be broken individually, but not in a bunch. This is ironic in that the same is said of the fasces, the bundle of sticks. Robert Paxton is widely considered the father of fascism studies. He wrote an essay called The Five Stages of Fascism. The Rothschild coat of arms has two hands holding five arrows:

Five Arrows TV series
Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes is working on a new project called Five Arrows, a TV series about the Rothschild dynasty.
Five Arrows is being produced by Jemima Khan, whose father Sir James Goldsmith is believed by some conspiracy theorists to have been the father of Princess Diana.
Her two brothers married Rothschild heiresses.

Prince Michael of Kent: idol of the Russians!
Prince Harry is not the only candidate for a restored Russian monarchy. An article from 2004 alleges that Prince Michael of Kent is a cult hero in Russia. His resemblance to the last Tsar has a lot to do with it: “In the Siberian countryside, where butterflies fill the air in summer temperatures, these are the theatrical shows of nostalgia for the old certainties of the royal Romanovs. In Russia's cities, too, there is a yearning for a lost heritage in these get-rich-quick post-communist times. The result is a national love affair - almost a cult worship - of Prince Michael of Kent. No wonder the prince - whose grandfather, George V, was cousin to the executed Nicholas II - is so at home. In Britain he is at best unknown; at worst ridiculed for his wife, nicknamed 'Princess Pushy', and the playboy antics of his son, Lord Freddie Windsor. In Russia he is feted by tycoons, flown in private jets - the closest thing they have to a king. Nearing his 62nd birthday he hurtles through at least six engagements a day, essaying countless introductions, toasts and apologies for his rusty Russian. He met endless businessmen, diplomats, arts luminaries, politicians and students. He was showered with gifts, from a Siberian factory to a vodka bottle shaped like a pistol” www.theguardian.com/world/2004/jun/27/uk.russiaPrince Michael enjoying himself in Russia:

UnseenI , thats more so now. I was watching TV during Harry stepdown. They did a vote who were and not for the decision. Many normal germans sided with old queen . However the german celebrities, actors in berlin were for megxit because the idea of a prince leaving a castle to reunite with his bride in Canada is romantic . The one who did the vote said the normal volk were more intelligent than all the spoilt actors who live in berlin in Appartments with wooden flloor / perfumed bathrooms and are not intouch with reality. There is pain in many people especially during xmas, easter or cultural events. People miss a continious figure who represents the village, towns, regional celebrations. The politicians are not able to unite all people and represent culturally without being impartial. so at the moment one notices a vaccum. royality were intertwined with village life . now people get actors to dressup as king or princess and carry out the role of royals Lavendel I think you said that many German people are interested in members of former German royal families. Coronado associations
A reminder of some interesting names in Meghan’s life: Meghan’s mother Doria now lives in a place called Windsor Hills. Joshua Silverstein is a name from Meghan’s past. She met him at the Agape International Spiritual Centre, a huge, ultra-progressive, trans-denominational church which she attended regularly with her mother; this centre is in Buckingham Parkway! Her father lives in a place in Mexico from where the Coronado Islands can be seen. These four islands off the coast of Baja are uninhabited and are a sanctuary for wildlife. There are some other places with the same name, which means ‘crowned’. The Hotel del Coronado is in the city of Coronado near San Diego. It has hosted many notable guests. Wallis Simpson lived in Coronado, and the future Edward VIII attended a banquet in the Crown Room of the hotel in 1920. The Hotel del Coronado by night and by day - does that look like an all-seeing eye to you Avacyn ?

Hotel del Coronado and the Wizard of Oz The Wizard of Oz was written in the city of Coronado! The hotel is said to have been the inspiration for the Emerald City. It is situated in Orange Avenue, which is said to have been the inspiration for the Yellow Brick Road. From Wiki: “Author L. Frank Baum would have been able to see the hotel from his front porch overlooking Star Park. Baum designed the crown chandeliers in the hotel's dining room. Because of the reported association with Oz, Coronado is often associated with the color green and is sometimes referred to as "The Emerald City". The colors of Coronado High are green and white; the Coronado city flag is a tricolor of green-white-green with a crown in the middle; and a local surf/skate shop is named Emerald City... 60% of the hotel is now owned by the Blackstone Group...” L. Frank Baum’s Crown Room in the Hotel del Coronado where the then Prince of Wales dined:

Hermann Bühlbecker, Lambertz and the sun trademark
German businessman Hermann Bühlbecker and his confectionery company Lambertz are of interest for more reasons than his association with Sarah Ferguson. There is an explanation for the sun connection and it is a royal one: “The Lambertz tradition dates back to 1688 when the family bought the rights to establish a bakery on Aachen's main market. The name of the bakery was called Zur Sonne -- in reference to the reigning monarch in France at that time, Louis XIV, the Sun King. For over three centuries Lambertz, who still use the sun in their logo, has been the exclusive supplier to both the Aachen cathedral and city hall.” www.dw.com/en/germanys-gingerbread-giant/a-14347391688 is a year of great interest because this is when William of Orange deposed the Stuarts and became King here. When he heard that William had landed in England, Louis IV declared war on the Netherlands. Lambertz and its logo in Hermann Bühlbecker’s background: The big red sun in the background of this strange picture of Hermann Bühlbecker looks sinister to me:

Royal Ascot Greencoats
Green coats are of interest because of Greenmantle. There are some with royal connections. The Greencoats are on show when the Queen comes to the Royal Ascot race meetings. The Greencoats – who form part of the ceremonial guard for the Queen – have been an integral part of Royal Ascot since the 1700s. Their distinctive green velvet clothing is said to have been originally made of leftover material from curtains at Windsor Castle.

Hermann Bühlbecker has got into a few threads now with his royal and Epstein circle connections. Something about him seems very strange, and this picture looks a little sinister to me: Perhaps it is just that he is another example of someone with a false smile:

A strange London bus advertisement and the number five aletheia found something very interesting and posted it in a Members’ thread. I think it should be made available for all to see. It may not be obviously monarchy-related, but it is part of a bigger pattern with the royals and London at the centre. The BBC website had an article about five London bus workers dying from Coronavirus. They illustrated it with a picture of a bus with an advertisement for 5G that said: “Fantastic news. We’re going to rip up your road.” This seems very tactless considering the context; perhaps others noticed this and complained as the picture has been replaced. ’...rip up your road’ makes me think of the TV programme Ripper Street. As mentioned in my previous posts about the number five in this thread, there were five known Jack the Ripper victims. Then there are the five TFL employees, the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, 5G... From something Nigel Farage said that was posted on the Brexit thread: “Allowing Huawei into the heart of our planned 5G network threatens the vital “Five Eyes” intelligence partnership with the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.“ Nigel Farage was hit by a Five Guys milkshake. On BBC Radio Five Live he admitted that he made a big mistake when he left politics in 2016. Nigel Farage formed an alliance with Italy’s Five Star movement. He called for a five-year ban on migrant benefits. He said he would target the five million Labour voters who backed Brexit. He has been featured on here as a future candidate for the monarchy!

Marketers are a bunch of B-Arkers!
For anyone who doesn’t know what this means, it is a reference to Douglas Adams’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The Arks are giant space ships, designed to contain the entire population of a doomed planet. The A Ark contains, “brilliant leaders, the scientists, the great artists...all the achievers”, the C Ark contains essential workers, makers and doers and the B Ark contains middle-men such as, “hairdressers, tired TV producers, insurance salesmen, personnel officers, security guards, public relations executives, management consultants...” What reminded me of this was seeing some presentation material for the launch of Sarah Ferguson’s Hartmoor company - the one that went nowhere and collapsed with huge debts. There are slides for the media strategy and the brand strategy. A sickbag is recommended for anyone who looks at them! Hype, spin, ‘The Brand’, marketing jargon, sky-high objectives, a photograph that has been photo-shopped to hell...it is all out of touch with reality. They also have the percentages of surveyed people who thought that Sarah was classy, stylish, hard-working, attractive, inspirational etc. www.slideshare.net/newhouse95/hartmoor-launch-ppt118originalwww.slideshare.net/newhouse95/hartmoor-brand-strategyThe PR version of Sarah Ferguson, with the real thing:

Reading the Riot Act
Today's leading headline in the DM is about Dominic Raab "reading the riot act" ahead of Easter Weekend; with a further 881 deaths from coronavirus being reported today. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8205473/Were-not-Dominic-Raab-reads-riot-act-Britons-lockdown.htmlThis made me think of the early reign of King George the First and the start of the Hanoverian succession during which the Riot Act 1714 was passed. Another topical connexion to the reign of George I is the smallpox outbreak that occurred in the Thirteen Colonies in 1721. This was said to have started in Boston, Massachusetts, with the city's population fleeing the contagion and bringing the disease to the surrounding colonies. The short Wikipedia article on this outbreak states that the colonists dealt with the smallpox by a combination of isolation and inoculation. Interestingly, it also mentions how Cotton Mather (famous Puritan clergyman who provided the intellectual and theological impetus for the Salem witch-hunts of 1692) advocated the use of inoculation, which was then a practice looked upon with suspicion. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disease_in_colonial_America

I wonder how much of a crackdown there will be. I have seen groups of cyclists and people in parks basking in the sun, all too close together.
I had been thinking about the Black Death, which is said to have originated in China, with half of all Londoners estimated to have been killed, and the Great Plague, which killed a quarter of the people living in London, and wondering what the royals of the time did and where the leadership came from. There are so many fascinating topics to investigate!

The great plague of London
A quick look at Wiki shows that Charles II left London with his court and family and went to Salisbury. When the plague came to Salisbury, he moved to Oxford. Other rich people left London too, with city officials mostly staying in post. Businesses were closed when merchants and other professionals fled. Not for the faint-hearted: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Plague_of_London
