Berlin rabbits
Berlin is a current place of interest. It has special rabbit associations: they symbolise freedom of movement. This is commemorated in the form of an art installation: “ Life-size brass rabbits set into the road and pavement of a small stretch of the Chausseestraße in the district of Wedding. Although bunnies aren't exactly an uncommon sight in Berlin, they tend to be of the living, breathing variety...The installation Kaninchenfeld (Rabbit Field) by artist Karla Sachse muses on the fact that when the Wall still stood, rabbits flourished in the wilderness of its death strip. They dug their tunnels directly beneath the barrier from one part of the city to another, and their presence, although beloved by East and West Germans alike, served as an ironic reminder of the freedom of movement denied to Berlin's human inhabitants. When the Wall fell, the rabbits' homes were swept away, and today, the metal silhouettes provide the only clue as to their former habitat (as well as, of course, a reminder of the location of the border checkpoint itself).” www.secretcitytravel.com/berlin-august-2014/berlin-quirky-sights-rabbits-kaninchenfeld-art-installation.shtml

Rabbit graffiti in Berlin
Rabbits - like bananas - have a special significance for the people of Berlin. They often appear in street art. Here are some good examples:

Fortune-telling rabbits in Istanbul
This is an unusual tourist attraction. You give the man some money, tell a rabbit your name and the rabbit selects a slip of paper with your fortune written on it!

Evil bunnies I
Rabbits have not always been portrayed as adorable, fluffy, cute and cuddly animals. Lavendel found some mediaeval material a while back in which rabbits were portrayed as thugs, bullies and criminals. Some of the pictures are really gruesome:

Evil bunnies II
There are many modern sinister pictures of rabbits to be found online, most involving adults dressed up as the Easter Bunny and very frightened and upset children. Avacyn remembered some from the old David Icke Forum. I found them and they are very disturbing, all the more as the people who shared them online seemed to fund them funny:

Another sinister Easter Bunny picture
Why do people publish and pass on such pictures?

A non-threatening rabbit
If anything, it is the rabbit who looks a little alarmed here:

The renowned British post-war poet Philip Larkin is associated with rabbits. He wrote the poem Myxomatosis, which responds on the plight of rabbits who were culled in the 1950s with the ultimate aim to exterminate their population. Myxomatosis was a disease, caused by the myxoma virus, deliberately introduced into Britain to achieve this aim. Here he is with a wicker rabbit given to him by Monica Jones (photograph from 1962)

This looks like a very good lead, although the reference to the virus is alarming!
