The time has come to give the number five a thread of its own. There are some interesting references and associations on here that might seem even more significant when brought together and collated. The best of the existing occurrences will be repeated here, and there are some new references to come. An advertisement for Fry's Five Boys chocolate is a good example to start things off with as many of the posts will include five boys or men:

The Rothschilds and the five arrows
The banker Meyer Amschel Rothschild (1744 – 1812) had five sons. Each of them established a bank in the principal financial centres of Europe: there were branches in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Naples and Vienna. The Rothschilds later took the symbols of five arrows, and they currently have various funds and investment companies with Five Arrows in the name. The five arrows give a ‘unity is strength’ message: they could be broken individually, but not in a bunch. This is ironic in that the same is said of the fasces, the bundle of sticks. The Rothschild coat of arms has two hands each holding five arrows:

Victor Rothschild, the ‘fifth man’
Victor Rothschild, 3rd Baron Rothschild, was accused of being a Soviet agent, the fifth man in the notorious Cambridge Five spy ring case involving Burgess & Maclean. He shared a flat with Burgess and Anthony Blunt, the ‘fourth man’ in the spy case. Lord Rothschild is also said to have been a Satanist. He does have a slight resemblance to a very notorious one; both Victor Rothschild and Aleister Crowley went to Trinity College, Cambridge and worked for MI5 during the Second World War:

The Five Bonaparte Brothers
Napoleon Bonaparte had four brothers: Joseph, Louis, Lucien and Jerome. This contemporary cartoon shows him strategically positioning his four brothers on the map of Europe to solidify his empire: Joseph, king of Naples and Sicily, later king of Spain; Lucien, prince of Canino; Louis, king of Holland; and Jerome, king of Westphalia

The Five Bonaparte Masonic Brothers
While Napoleon's father and four brothers are said to be Freemasons, people are still divided as to whether he was one or not. In this French lithograph from 1848, Napoleon and his four brothers are called The Five Uncles of Freemasonry:

The French Directory Five
The Directory, a five-member committee that governed France from November 1795 to November 1799, failed to reform the disastrous economy, relied heavily on army and violence, and represented another turn towards dictatorship during the French Revolution. A contemporary print of the five members:

The Fifth Reform UK Boy and an emotional spectrum
The five faces on Fry’s Five Boys milk chocolate bars represent: Desperation, Pacification, Expectation, Acclamation and Realisation: Am I imagining this, or does James McMurdock, the fifth and final Reform UK MP who won by only 98 votes, look a little like the Fry's boy? He even mentions a spectrum of emotions: “Speaking about how it felt to be elected he added: "From all the way from rock bottom, all the way to the absolute ceiling. The emotions have been phenomenal and fantastic. I mean, there are some analogies that I would really love to use, but I don't know if they're too whimsical given how serious the work we do is.”” The Fry's Five Boys certainly make a whimsical analogy! www.gbnews.com/politics/reform-mp-james-mcmurdock-shock-elected-nuisance

In this French lithograph from 1848, Napoleon and his four brothers are called The Five Uncles of Freemasonry: I have heard talk that the French Revolution was a Masonic planned event. Not sure if this is true, but certainly interesting when you consider the above.

Nigel Farage, Five Guys and Five Boys
In May 2019, Nigel Farage had a milkshake thrown over him when he was campaigning in Newcastle. The milkshake was a £5.25 banana and salted caramel one from the burger chain Five Guys. Nigel Farage at Easter this year: “I’m stuffing my face with chocolate this Easter – to annoy the NHS luvvies. I don’t care, and I loathe their patronising tone. I’ll eat an Easter egg on Sunday, even if it spoils lunch.” The first chocolate Easter egg in the UK was introduced in 1873 by the family-owned company Fry. They also produced the famous Fry's Five Boys chocolate bars:

Two examples of five centres
We started with Fry's Five Boys and the five Rothschild sons, the Five Arrows, each of whom was assigned to a central financial area in Europe: This reminds me of Fry's Five Centres, another best seller:

More fives for Nigel Farage
Previously posted elsewhere: “On BBC Radio Five Live he admitted that he made a big mistake when he left politics in 2016. Nigel Farage formed an alliance with Italy’s Five Star movement. He called for a five-year ban on migrant benefits. He said he would target the five million Labour voters who backed Brexit.” Farage said: “Allowing Huawei into the heart of our planned 5G network threatens the vital “Five Eyes” intelligence partnership with the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.“ People are invited to pay £5 a month to join Farage's Twitter Club, and in June this year he said that he would get five million votes at a general election. Five copies of five pledges from the time when he was leader of UKIP :

The Five Eyes intelligence alliance
The Five Eyes alliance mentioned above by Nigel Farage comprises intelligence agencies from the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Five Eyes coalition was formed in 1946 to share intelligence and coordinate security effort in order to counter the threat posed by the Soviet Union. The alliance now focuses on countering a range of threats, including terrorism, cybersecurity, weapons proliferation, organized crime and state-backed espionage and interference. Five Eyes intelligence chiefs are all pictured together for the first time ever. From left to right, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Director-General Mike Burgess; Canadian Security Intelligence Service Director David Vigneault; FBI Director Christopher Wray; New Zealand Security Intelligence Service Director-General of Security and Chief Executive Andrew Hampton; and MI5 Director General Ken McCallum

I have learned only recently that there are a good few inns and public houses called The Five Alls. Here are examples of older and more modern signs:

The five apartment buildings that resemble owls at St. George’s Wharf near Vauxhall are close to the new MI6 building and the tower where the helicopter crashed.

The fifth day of the fifth month
Two very famous men have a key day in their lives in common. Napoleon Bonaparte died on May 5th 1821. Karl Marx was born on May 5th 1818.

The Central Park Five
Five men who make up the Central Park Five and now call themselves the Exonerated Five have filed a defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump over his remarks during the presidential debate last month. He wrongly said that they had pleaded guilty and that the victim of a 1989 assault had died.

The five Marx Brothers
Of the five Marx Brothers, Harpo, Groucho and Chico were the best known to film watchers. Gummo did not appear in any of their films, and Zeppo appeared in just the first five. L to R: Zeppo, Groucho, Chico, Gummo and Harpo
