It breaks my heart there's some people in Ireland who believe he was a "traitor" or "sell out".
Great man. No better Gael, ever. Full stop.

Two posters
A 'wanted' poster of the time. £10,000 was a vast amount of money in 1918: A striking modern portrait of Michael Collins:

Mícheál Ó Coileáin: Illuminati member!
I have posted about the astronaut Michael Collins in the thread about people who lived to be 90 or over. His father's family was Irish; by coincidence they lived in West Cork, which is where this Michael Collins came from. 'Collins' is alleged to be one of the top 13 Illuminati families; perhaps these two men are of the same bloodline. Michael Collins's father was 75 when he was born. The Illuminati are said to adopt out their children...

Hang Up Your Brightest Colours: the (banned) life of Michael Collins
Hang Up Your Brightest Colours is a documentary-style TV film about the life and death of Irish Republican leader Michael Collins. This film is not bad, except that it is narrated by a Welshman who I think sometimes tries to adopt an Irish accent – his Welsh accent seeps through!
We see Collins's school, the post office where he worked in London and much more, including the post office in Dublin from the steps of which the proclamation of the Irish Republic was made – I have seen this building myself.
The film was considered to be politically offensive and described as 'an incitement to disorder'. It was banned and not shown until 1994, some 21 years after its completion.
I don't know enough about history and politics to understand why this film was banned.

Merching Michael Collins
Just as merchandise for next year's Platinum Jubilee is already on sale, household items and memorabilia are available to mark next year's 100th anniversary of Michael Collins's death. These blankets/throws are some examples; they can be bought online: These should be selling well: www.redbubble.com/shop/?query=michael%20collins&ref=search_box

Michael Collins in London
Michael Collins moved to London in 1906. He lived at various addresses in west London until he returned to Ireland early in 1916. He moved to his final London home, 5 Netherwood Road near Shepherd's Bush, in 1914. There is a memorial plaque on the house:

Michael Collins memorabilia for sale
Some items owned by or relating to Michael Collins will be auctioned in March: “A lock of republican leader Michael Collins' hair as well as an evocative account of his death 100 years ago are set to be auctioned in Belfast. The items are among a number from the Irish War of Independence going under the hammer at Bloomfield Auction House next month. They include a walking stick owned by Collins, a revolver he reputedly had on his person when helping spring Eamon De Valera from Lincoln Jail in 1919 as well as documents from Collins' close friend Emmet Dalton. Those include Dalton's account of the killing of Collins in Co Cork in August 1922 and a photograph of the British intelligence agents who were later known as the Cairo Gang.” www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-news/lock-michael-collins-hair-evocative-23204188

Michael Collins and the Easter Rising Avacyn should this thread now be in the history section? The Easter Rising started on Easter Monday 1916. It lasted for six days. Irish republicans seized strategically important buildings in Dublin and proclaimed the Irish Republic. Around 485 people were killed in the fighting. Michael Collins is said to have returned to Ireland because he was aware that a rising was being planned. He served as an aide at the headquarters in the General Post Office during Easter week. He was arrested and detained; he was released at Christmas 1916. A very detailed account of his involvement is given here: www.generalmichaelcollins.com/life-times/the-struggle/michael-collins-and-the-1916-rising/Michael Collins and the Proclamation of Easter 1916:

100 years ago today
A week-long festival of events in West Cork marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins: “The Michael Collins Centenary Commemoration Festival will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the death of Michael Collins but also celebrate his life and achievements. The programme will reflect Collins’ own interests with events ranging from sports and theatre to history, music, art and walks.” michaelcollinsfestival.ie/A short film about his early life has been made, and some of his diaries are on display for the first time.

A new heritage plaque for Michael Collins
Michael Collins died 101 years ago today. A new memorial was unveiled recently in Barnsbury Street, Islington at the site of the former Barnsbury Hall, where Collins was initiated into the secret organisation, the Irish Republican Brotherhood, in 1909.

Michael Collins's lost umbrella
An umbrella that Michael Collins left behind in a pub has been donated to a museum: “AN umbrella which was left behind in a pub by General Michael Collins has been added to the collection of historic artefacts at a Clonakilty museum. The umbrella was left behind following one of Collins’ visits to Devlin’s Pub on Parnell Street in Dublin and has since been safeguarded by the Devlin family.” www.southernstar.ie/news/museum-is-gifted-umbrella-collins-left-in-pub-4291884

August 22nd 1922
Today is the 102nd anniversary of the assassination of Michael Collins. This painting, which is called “Love of Ireland” and dates from 1922, is the work of the Irish artist John Lavery:
