The building in question is the Trocadero, which has been empty since 2005. I first heard about this a few days ago but, unlike most supporters of and objectors to the plan, I wanted to investigate before posting anything. I thought at first that it was a joke, and so did a few other people I told! There are campaigns on both sides to encourage people to sign petitions and post comments on Westminster City Council’s portal for planning applications. Most of the comments, for and against, are of a low standard, cut and paste affairs that do nothing for their cause. Some of the objectors make it look as though a huge new purpose-built building is about to arise and dominate the area! What is planned is just a conversion of the lower levels of the inside of an old building. I am not sure whether to attribute this to making wrong assumptions or to a deliberate attempt to inflame people by giving them misleading information. They also complain about a big increase in traffic and competition for parking, but the mosque is intended to be used by Muslims who already live and work in the area so will probably walk or use public transport. That is not to say it wouldn’t encourage visits from all over London of course. By the way Britain First, did you know that petitions count as only one objection! I may put something about this historic building on the London thread; any future big developments will go here. In the meantime, here is some more information: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/may/22/plan-to-open-mosque-in-trocadero-in-london-sparks-objections

Was there any developments on this in the end?

It seems as though this all happened 100 years ago!
The original planning application was withdrawn in late May 2020 after an unprecedented number of objections and much negative publicity.
There were reports last year that another application was being submitted, but I can't find anything on the council's website. This is a mystery; the story could just be irresponsible click bait.
There are just too many developments and topics to monitor! I will try to remember to look out for this one.
