UnseenI mentioned owning a thirteen year old laptop, and struggling with it. So, I thought I would start this thread, because technology is something I take an interest in. I'm very much one to try out other possibilities, because I like to get what I want - and the mainstream answer may not be it.
Something that has caught my eye - for a good long while now - is the Raspberry Pi. It is a series of small sized computers, designed to be useful for a range of projects, education... the possibilities are endless. I've seen people talking about using them as cheap GPS trackers on yachts, as example. I ended up getting one of the very first Raspberry Pi 4 B boards, because I happened to see it on sale thirty nine minutes after official launch. I have a 4GB version, meaning it is perfectly usable as an alternative to the PC. It also means I'm not using Windows - though you could certainly put Windows 10 upon it!
Here is a YouTube video explaining it:
To be clear: This is very, very new (as of August 2019.) There is a lot being worked on, and ironed out. So this is a terrible product? I completely disagree. This is very close to truly rivalling a PC, certainly in general use. In the next few months, as the support and development happens for it, I see it becoming even closer. It does need cooling, so it is not - yet - suitable for a complete novice. But it is something I've used as my main machine since late July, and having two screens at once is really handy to have.
I'll keep people updated, because this might well be of interest/use.
