Wide stride walking in New York
The Sussexes visited New York's One World Observatory in September 2021. This outfit is quite smart and suitable for once – apart from the trousers being too long:

The salt and pepper Sussexes
Meghan has been getting a lot of attention for various things that she said in an interview recently. One example: “While Harry used the soppy image of intertwined palm trees as a visual representation of the couple's marriage, Meghan prefers a different analogy - instead comparing the couple to 'salt and pepper'. She recounted how a friend's mother had taught her as a child that 'salt and pepper are always passed together', adding: 'That’s me and Harry. We’re like salt and pepper. We always move together.'” www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11156945/Prince-Harrys-soppy-sentimental-revealed-Meghan-Markles-latest-interview.htmlThere may be a merching opportunity for the Sussexes here. They could sell something like these salt & pepper shakers:

Whatever happened to Justin Welby?
Archbishop Justin Welby has appeared in many posts in the past, but has not said or done anything relevant and worth commenting on recently. A reminder of what he said about Meghan in 2018: “.. .I've got to know her a bit and she's a very remarkable person...she is someone of thoughtfulness, integrity, service, commitment to duty.” That is a good one! Why hasn't he said something about Meghan's podcasts and interviews? He avoided meeting the Sussexes at the Platinum Jubilee thanksgiving service by saying that he had Covid. Will they try to get him on their side when they come here next week? How will he react: open arms or open hostility?

Next week's agenda for the Sussexes
The Sussexes are expected to be in Europe for around six days. It is not yet known whether or not they will be meeting other royal family members. They may have gone too far in recent interviews and podcasts. There should be some good pictures coming out of this visit, and it is a good excuse to get some popcorn in.

German fans from the past
German fans of our royals celebrated the wedding in May 2018. I wonder how many still like the Sussexes, who are in Germany today.

The Sussexes are going down well in Germany
The Sussexes are a big hit in Dusseldorf. Prince Harry has been speaking German. I wonder if Meghan has learned some useful phrases:

Harry and 'Jess' in the King Charles III TV film
In the alternative history play King Charles IIIof 2014, Prince Harry runs off with a struggling art student called Jessica whom he meets at a nightclub. Prescriptive or predictive? From the TV film version of 2017:

Prince Harry wants to quit
The 2014 play King Charles III is written in Shakespearian-style blank verse. In this scene, 'Prince Harry' is attempting to convince his father the new King Charles III that he wants to stop being a prince while 'William', 'Kate' and 'Camilla' look on: If King approves it can through boredom work. We make no fuss 'cept that I have moved, got job. And will no longer take the civil list I'll have no role official and not prince, I'll live a life of normalcy, within This country, rather than atop the mound Unearned and with a target on my back.

Fake arms for Sparkles the chicken
There have been wild conspiracy theories that bodyguards of people such as Donald Trump and King Charles wear fake arms so that they can hold concealed weapons. Stranger things have happened! “A very popular online image has recent made a celebrity out of a chicken from Arizona. "Sparkles" the chicken recently received a special gift from "Uncle Brian" in the mail. The gift was her very own set of "chicken arms." These arms are basically baby doll arms, with a piece of wire attached to them. Since chickens don't use their wings much, you simply bend the wire to fit around the top of your chickens wings...” 963theblaze.com/diy-fake-arms-for-your-chickens/They would make a good present for the Sussexes' chickens:

Candles: a new merching idea for Meghan
We have had benches, bananas, chickens and hot sauces; perhaps candles will become the new items of interest now. Meghan was obscured by a large candle at Monday's funeral. Maybe this will give her some ideas. Here is a good example of the blocking: By coincidence, the old Sussex Royal site had a coronet similar to the one this Sussex-based candle-producing company is using:

Battle of the books
We are still waiting for Prince Harry's memoirs. In the meantime, more books containing allegations against the Sussexes are being published. Perhaps Harry is waiting to see what they say before releasing his side of the story. There may be some petty tale-telling on both sides. There may even be some legal action. The Daily Mail is the place to go for updates and extracts, not to mention speculation and many references to 'sources'. I don't see how the Sussexes can win this battle of shining lights and lightning strikes:

Cancel, delay, revise, or publish and be damned?
The floated rumours and the speculation about Prince Harry's memoirs continue. There is a good chance that they will be a damp squib now. This cartoon suggests that people other than Prince Harry and the ghostwriter are involved in producing the book:

Soho House is still expanding
Soho House has recently opened branches in Balham and Copenhagen, and further openings are planned for Glasgow and Bangkok. This seems strange. I wonder whether they have taken the huge rises in costs into account. I would have expected them to raise their fees and lose many members. They have been in existence for 27 years and have never made a profit! They have launched new ranges of products and a new magazine too. They will be giving awards for creativity. I just don't understand the attraction. The chairs in the dining room of the elite Dean St. branch are too big for the small tables, the bench is for display only, the pictures are awful...

Soho House isn't all bad
There has been a lot of speculation about backers and suggestions that the Soho House clubs are a front for all kinds of unsavoury activities, with sinister things going on behind the scenes. I was looking at some of my old records and found that I had been to a meeting at the Greek Street Soho House in 2005! The name meant nothing to me at the time; I don't remember the place or the décor and I soon forgot all about it. The meeting was held by a former colleague and an expert in patents and intellectual property rights. I was asked to go because they wanted my memories of an online financial dealing system. I was just a guest; I assume that it was the software patent expert who was the member and he hired a small room for the occasion. So I can confirm that, for some people at least, Soho House really is just a place to go. This grey Georgian townhouse in Greek Street that I went to is the original Soho House club:

Royal hot sauce
The names of these two flavours are very relevant. The Sussexes really should bring out their own brand: I am sure that they would make a fortune. Royal Peppers Duke and Red Prince:

Publication date for the Sussex memoirs
According to the DM, Prince Harry's delayed memoirs will be published on January 10th. Since the Queen's death, he has been battling to get them watered down. Will he win or lose the battle? If he succeeds, it will reduce their attraction for some people. Prince Harry goes to war using his pen as his weapon in this cartoon from the Financial Times:

'Spare'!
The title of Prince Harry's memoirs has been announced: he has called his book 'Spare'. Surely it would be better to say 'The Spare': readers in the US may not be familiar with the 'Heir and Spare' reference and may be reminded of the song Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?

Top Banana and Second Banana
Top Banana and Second Banana are terms that originated in the US. They could have been applied to Princes William and Harry before William had his family! 'Second Banana' would be a good title for Prince Harry's memoirs!

Two royal memoirs and their authors
The Duke of Windsor published his memoirs in 1951. He looks quite smartly-dressed and dignified in this publicity photo: To me, Prince Harry looks like a sinister uncanny valley character here:

Who benches better?
As many people have noticed, the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Windsor have some elements of their lives in common. The former Edward VIII set some precedents for Prince Harry in that he married an American and wrote some memoirs. He was also photographed sitting on a bench.
