Pigs first attracted our attention when we found that Peaches Geldof was obsessed with them.
The large number of images and associations we subsequently found apply to so many Boards and Threads that they could be grouped into many sub-threads.
For the moment, we will collate the most significant material here.

I, for one have not forgotten that pig shrine that was at her wedding...
There is a reason and significance to this, we just never found out what. I wonder if it is Masonic, at all?

Princess Anne and pig on pig violence
From 2015: “The Princess Royal’s prize pig has been killed by a wild boar that got into its pen at her Gloucestershire farm Gatcombe Park. The 64-year-old told the Oxford Farming Conference that her Gloucestershire Old Spot boar was killed on Tuesday night, the Western Morning News reported. “We had a visit last night on our farm from a wild boar,” She told delegates. “My Gloucester Old Spot boar is no longer with us as a result.” The rare English breed of pig – a favourite of the princess – is known for its docility and intelligence. The Princess Royal, a keen farmer, is patron of the Gloucester Old Spot Pigs Breeders Club. The attack happened just hours after a boar caused a crash which killed a man on the M4, not far from Anne’s home.“ Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk/Princess-Anne-Gloucestershire-Old-Spot-pig-savaged-death-wild-boar-broke-penTwo fatal incidents involving wild boars hours apart near Princess Anne’s home? Could there be something symbolic here? Boars make me think of Richard III and the House of York...

Kate down on the farm with some pigs
Kate visited Wick Court in Gloucestershire, a Farms for City Children project, in May. The farm was founded by author Michael Morpurgo, whose works include War Horse and... Pigs Might Fly. She enjoyed helping visiting school children from Vauxhall in London to herd some pigs: “Edison David, head teacher at Vauxhall, also admitted Kate had displayed a surprising talent during her visit when she went to help weigh some of the pigs. 'She was pushing the pig's bum with her bare hands, ' he said. 'It was just to move the pig along. It was second nature to her.'” Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4469578/Duchess-Cambridge-visits-children-s-farm-Gloucester.html#ixzz4g2JfTxJhThe royals do like those ginger pigs.

Two little royal pigs!
A headline from the DM in June this year: “Kate's pinky and perky pair! Charlotte and George light up the royal balcony to celebrate great-grandmother's 91st birthday …“ Pinky and Perky are two characters from a children’s TV programme: Merge the two shirts and you get the London Bridge pattern as in the blue/orange thread. What a coincidence.

Richard III and the white boar
It is not just modern royals who are associated with pigs. Richard III generated many posts on the old forum. He had many opponents, including Henry Tudor supporter William Collingbourne who wrote this couplet about him: “The Catte, The Ratte and Lovell our Dog, doe rule all England under a Hog.” This was a reference to Richard III's henchmen Catesby, Ratcliffe and Lovell; Hog refers to Richard himself: his personal badge or device was a white boar: Here is Richard III with the white rose of York and the boar on his standard, in an illuminated picture taken from his personal prayer book:

Richard III again
He was known as Richard of York before he became Duke of Gloucester. By coincidence, Princess Anne keeps Gloucester Old Spot pigs. York has also been known as Jorvik and Eboracum. The origin of these names is discussed extensively in WiKi. Possible roots for the name Eboracum are Germanic and Old English words meaning ' boar' and ' wild swine'. Just a coincidence. Sir Laurence Olivier starred in a wonderful film based on Shakespeare's play about him; Richard III is one of my favourite films. Here we have Sir Laurence Olivier as Richard III with the white boar banner, and a Richard III pin badge. The picture on the backing is taken from a portrait of Richard that was painted in the late 1500s:

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the ‘Draw a Pig’ Celebrity Challenge
I learned about the Cinnamon Challenge and the Chilli Challenge from other people’s posts. I didn’t know that such challenges are nothing new. In 1899, the Strand Magazine challenged some celebrities to draw a pig with their eyes closed. Here is Arthur Conan Doyle’s attempt: I wonder how many of us could do any better! Note that the challenge was written about by Gertrude Bacon!

The boar at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight
There are many royal residences; Osborne House at East Cowes was acquired and rebuilt by Victoria and Albert, who used it as a seaside holiday home. Queen Victoria died there. There is a statue of the Calydonian Boar by the entrance to the Household Wing:

Pigs and Nanny McPhee
Rhys Evans and Emma Thompson, who have both been in Harry Potter films and in Richard Curtis films, were both in Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, which features pigs. There is a scene where piglets do synchronised swimming. “As Nanny McPhee speeds past Battersea Power Station on her motorbike, among the barrage balloons in the sky is one that is distinctly pig-shaped... "You are right!" says (Director) White, when challenged over the in-joke. " I hid various pigs throughout the film. I am a Pink Floyd fan..."” Emma Thompson was joined by a pig at the Nanny McPhee premiere: Comedian Bill Bailey also appears in this film as a pig farmer; I am sure I remember seeing him with long talons playing a wolf in a TV fantasy based on the real-life story of the Tamworth Two, brown pigs who escaped the slaughterhouse.

Colin Firth and another pig
He starred in the 1993 film The Hour of the Pig aka The Advocate:“Hoping to escape the complications of 15th-century Paris, young lawyer Richard Courtois (Colin Firth) takes a job as a public defender in a rural area. There he finds himself defending a pig accused of murdering a International Travellerish boy.” Note the name Richard Courtois!

The Three Little Pigs and the freemasons
In the fairytale of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf, building the house of bricks or stone could have references to masonry. Someone has written a book about this. The wolf is a corrupted mason and the first two pigs were first and second degree masons! The third pig is a Master Mason.

Three little pigs in a masonic pig race
Those ginger pigs get in everywhere! “For this momentous occasion three East Kent pig race captains were appointed, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Charge, VWBro Roger Odd, the Deputy Grand Superintendent in charge, EComp Trevor Sidney Climpson and Assistant Provincial Grand Master WBro Brian Powell. Each contestant was allowed a younger and nimbler assistant to help guide the pigs around the course. During the race the three pigs appeared to be in charge and it was the captains and their helpers who needed guidance. Although there is no report as to who won, an enjoyable time was had by the crowd, the contestants and the pigs.” members.eastkentfreemasons.org/news/news-2011/127-first-provincial-pig-race.htmlI wonder whether the impressively titled gentlemen mentioned above have read the book mentioned in the previous post.

Pigpen Cipher or Freemasons' Cipher
“The Pigpen Cipher is another example of a substitution cipher, but rather than replacing each letter with another letter, the letters are replaced by symbols. The cipher has an interesting history: although its true origins are unknown, it has been used by many groups. Most notoriously, it was the cipher of choice for use by the Freemasons, a secret society in the 18th Century. In fact, they used it so much, that it is often referred to as the Freemasons Cipher. However, it was not exclusively used by them, with Union prisoners in Confederate camps using it to communicate in the American Civil War.” crypto.interactive-maths.com/pigpen-cipher.html

Jennifer Lawrence and some pigs
In addition to a blue/orange connection, Jennifer Lawrence has a pig connection. Here is a very bizarre account in a joke article of an imaginary incident: “Oscar winner and Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence was summoned last weekend to help her hometown win its battle with swine infestation. The JBS Swift plant in Butchertown was the site of the war between man and pig, as hundreds of pigs scheduled to be slaughtered by the bacon makin’ company escaped and overtook the city… Armed with the bow and arrow she stole from the set of “Hunger Games,” Lawrence went right to work with the Louisville Swine Swat Team, shooting the wild beasts with tranquilizer arrows that made the pigs count sheep so they could peacefully be converted to bacon. It took Lawrence and the LSST three days to catch the runaway livestock. One pig remains missing but is feared dead. Lawrence was carrying the animal across the Second Street Bridge when she tripped on the sidewalk and accidentally flung it into the Ohio River. More than 12 human injuries have been reported, and property damage is still being tallied. *This story is part of LEO Weekly’s Fake Issue. www.leoweekly.com/2014/03/film-jennifer-lawrence-called-to-save-louisville-from-hostile-pig-takeover/thebutchertownmarket.com/saving-louisville-from-pig-takeover/
