Janus in Angels & Demons One of the characters in Don Brown's best-selling book Angels & Demons calls himself Janus. He is both a Vatican high official and an Illuminati master. He hires assassins and he himself murders the Pope. From the film version, where he is is played by Ewan McGregor:

This cartoon from 1887 depicts William Gladstone as Janus the two-faced god because of his differing attitude to police violence against villains in England and France:

It means probably nothing but there also used to be a german band who called themselves Janus. Their music was very dark. They covered topics such as abuse, soul wounds, hopelessnes, human tragedies.

Janus Terror
There seems to be more than one connection between German music and Janus. I think that the Janus on this bleak, desolate picture is the dark music band mentioned above:

Janus in German Expressionism
The lost silent film Der Januskopf or The Head of Janus dates from 1920. It is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's story about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In the film, 'Dr. Jeskyll ' purchases from an antique store a bust with two faces. One is beautiful and one horrible. The bust becomes an obsession to Jeskyll. He attempts to give it away in an auction only to buy it back A poster for the film: This is an advertisement for the schrecken (frightening) film:
