“This diamond brooch in the shape of Canada's instantly recognizable maple leaf was given to Queen Elizabeth, the future Queen Mother, by her husband George VI in advance of their wildly successful Canadian tour in 1939.” he sizeable gem was a particular favorite during the war years, when she'd even perch it jauntily on her hat from time to time. She kept it until the end of her life, when it passed to the current queen like the rest of her jewels. We now see it pop up in Canada and at Canada-centric activities. The Windsors are not generally a family that does a lot of jewel sharing, which makes this brooch an interesting case. Queen Elizabeth first wore it in 1951, when her mother lent it to her for her first tour of Canada alongside her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, and she's now carried that tradition forward.“ copied from order of splendor blogpost. “Maple syrup was well known in the time of the native Americans, and it was an important part of their diet. The maple leaf is the national symbol in Canada, and it can be found in its flag and coins. In English-speaking countries, this tree was believed to repel demons and evil spirits. It was customary to have a piece of a maple tree in the main door. Furthermore, it is an important tree in the Celtic mythology. It was a tree consecrated to Dana, the Celtic goddess of fertility. It is also known as the tree of the tolerance. In China, maple is associated with honor, and its leaves are a motif in Japanese ukiyo-e paintings representing love and autumn.” “Goddess Danu is considered the most ancient of all Celtic Deities. Her name means knowledge, wisdom, teacher, wealth and abundance. She is also known as Dana and as her Welsh equivalent, Don. Some references have her as so ancient that she is both goddess and god and refer to Danu as an all-encompassing Divine Source. This multi-faceted aspect of the Divine Feminine is experienced as the air we breathe, as the river that nourishes all of life, as the bounty and abundance of earth and as the cosmic energy of universal wisdom. A Triple Goddess, which means she is able to take the form of the Maiden, the Mother or the Crone, and a Divine Lady who is the essence of the earth, the air and the essence of water, Danu is able to embody the form/energy suited the situation. Here she brings the power of versatility and teaches us to honor and respect diversity within ourselves and within others and reminds us to honor each stage of our physical life. Goddess Danu is strongly associated with the Tuatha de Dannan, which means “The Children of Danu.” The Tuatha de Dannan are believed to have been the wise ones, the alchemists of ancient Ireland. Some references have them as actual descendants of Danu. It is believed that when the Gaelics invaded Ireland, the Tuatha de Dannan shape shifted to the Sidhe (shee) who are considered the “farey folk” or the Leprechauns of Ireland. Danu will act as a Divine Ambassador to the Elemental Kingdoms, providing platforms for positive interactions with the Leprechauns and the Faery Folk. Some of Danu’s symbols include holy stones, horses – particularly mares, seagulls, fish, amber, gold, royalty/empress, rivers, sea, flowing water, air, wind, earth, moon, keys and crowns. Danu is commonly considered the first Great Mother of Ireland, Divine Creator aspect of the Goddess who birthed all things into being. She is an Earth Goddess, associated with fertility, growth, plenty, abundance, agriculture, cultivation and with nurturing of the land. Rivers, flowing water and the sea are also Danu’s Domain. Within this water form she wields the magic of Divine Flow. This River Goddess offers to clear stagnant energy and to remove blockages so that our efforts easily flow into fruition. As the river eventually flows into the sea, here Danu brings motivation to move within the direction of our dreams. Danu brings the attributes of inspiration, intellect, change and transcendence within her aspect as a Goddess of Air. As a Cosmic Goddess, Danu is the essence of Universal Wisdom and Divine Knowledge. She knows the secrets of Divine Alchemy and Divine Magic and reminds us that through our Oneness to the Divine Source, there really are no “secrets,” we are essentially one with All Encompassing Universal Wisdom. Within all her forms Danu brings the reminder that the power to create the life that we desire resides within us. She reminds us that we are innately attuned with the wisdom of our Ascended Self, and through the integrity of our Divine Essential Self our power is always aligned with Purity of Purpose. As a Sovereign Goddess, she assists us in transcending the illusions of unworthiness, providing the reminder that our essence is an aspect of the Divine Source. Danu reminds us of our Royal Roots, reminding us of our Divine Heritage. Reminding us that we are Divine and thus so we are aligned with infinite potential and with infinite possibility. Within this energy, Danu is the Goddess of Dreams Come True. Reminding us that we are absolutely worthy and completely capable of realizing our Greatest Dreams. Reminding us that we innately know our Highest Truth. Enabling us to transcend lesser goals born of low self worth and goals born of the lower self’s limited vision, empowering us to embrace our Golden Dreams, Dreams worthy of our Divine Consciousness. Goddess Danu specializes in realigning us with our Divine Truth, our Truth that is abundant, flourishing, fertile, wise and empowered. Danu brings empowerment with the remembrance that we each are the director of our own destiny and that within us we wield the power to realize our Greatest Dreams Come True. Danu is an ancient and eternal essence of the Goddess, an affirmation of the enduring energy of the Divine Feminine. She brings the steadfast love and support of a Mother Goddess and is a wonderful representation of the infinite, all encompassing Divine Universal Source. A powerful guide for those who seek to Remember their Highest Truth, Danu is dedicated to our realizing our greatest dreams, she is motivating, encouraging and always promotes the awareness that the power www.pyramidcompany.com/CJT/index_GoddessDanu.htmchieve anything, resides within us.”

Suits again
The DM has a story that Meghan commissioned some clothes from Chelsea company Oliver Brown for her father to wear during his trip to the UK for her wedding. One of the suits was worn at Ascot by someone who got it at a bargain price - allegedly. I wonder whether this story is damage limitation, put out to make Meghan seem more caring. I don’t believe that she wanted her father to come to the wedding. It is the relationship between Meghan’s TV series Suits and suits of cards that interests me. Lavendel , you have written a lot about colours since this staged picture was first published. The material features many of the colours you have mentioned: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5878313/PR-heavyweight-shows-tailcoat-Mr-Markle.html

Another staged suit picture?
Here is what is said to be the bespoke suit in question, worn by a PR man called Johnno Spence. It looks to me as though his companion has deliberately tried to look like Meghan. Everyone can see through these tricks.

Suits, Harry Potter and Johnny Depp
Non-UK people may not have heard of The Fast Show, which featured two tailors whose catchphrase was ‘Suit you Sir!’ One of the actors is Mark Williams, who plays the father of the Weasley family in the HP films. Johnny Depp was in one episode. He is very distantly related to the Queen; he was in the Alice in Wonderland film we have posted about; he is in the new HP film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald; he has been in the news this week.

Mark Williams, Father Brown and a few coincidences
For non-UK people: there is a very successful TV series called Father Brown that is loosely based on stories by G. K. Chesterton. Father Brown is a crime-solving Catholic priest - a kind of Sherlock Holmes. He is played by Mark Williams, Arthur Weasley in the HP films. The series is set in a village in the Cotswolds. One episode is called The Owl of Minerva, which reminds me of the owls and Minerva McGonagall in HP. Mark Williams as Father Brown, in the priest’s uniform with hat and cape:

The hand chair may just be for fun but it is interesting how it keeps coming up from ph at wedding with no hands to his hiding them for the engagement. In medieval times when someone was assasinated they would cut off the right hand to protect them from doing the devils work.
Today the queen is sick and cannot go to church service at st pauls for some dodgy order of St Michael. The duke of kent as head of the order went instead. Also bizarrely angelina joli. Here she is talking about an initiation ritual she took part in that includes sex maghic and the sacrifice of a snake.

I can't keep up with it all, but I wonder whether this is the start of something. It could just be the heat and she may soon recover, or maybe it is all starting to crumble.

I think she has been unwell lately. However meeting many young people from the common wealth countries must have been too much for her delicate immune system as she ages. I know many people who dont meet or greet old relatives ; upon coming from tropical countries untill after two weeks. I guess they brought exotic bacterias with them.
I have a delicate and sensitive immune system so after meeting people am not used to i take a shower and rest for days to allow my body to fight off any bacterias.
I think john major must be down with a cold. As soon as i saw the pictures i just thought she must be ill. Ala! The next day she was ill.
I also avoid greeting or hugging kindergarten children, they carry around rare infectious sicknesses.
Once i hugged a visitors from llithuania , romania and ukraine and I fell ill in all cases. Eastern European infections were rather aggressive on me , than I acquired from southern or Western Europeans.
I can imagine the queen is pushing on for her family but its not easy to work so much at this age.

With a bit of luck Unseen! transformer I am rather under the weather myself: we are having a heatwave in the UK and it makes the city atmosphere very unpleasant. I had an appointment yesterday and it was an effort to get myself up and out there - and I am a lot younger than 92! She has a very busy schedule for her Scotland visit, so may be resting in preparation for that. However, it is strange that there has been no update on her condition.

Still no news - except that a very senior PR person has resigned. I wonder... Holyrood week is about to start. Will she go to Balmoral soon? Lavendel your theory is very interesting. However, she has met so many people from all over the world that she must be immune to most things.

Will she or won’t she?
At the end of June and beginning of July each year, the Queen undertakes engagements in Scotland collectively known as Holyrood Week, to celebrate Scottish culture and history. They include the traditional ceremony of the keys in which the Queen is received in the city of Edinburgh by the City Chamberlain and given the keys to the city. Other events include a garden party.
No updates that I can see.

Unseenl Its reported that she was having problems standing suring the young leaders event. She should have a leg operation but has refused because she will missing events on her calendar. Thats what they are reporting here.
Interesting that she just had an eye operation for a similar condition one of her great uncle had. Back then the surgery she had to correct cataracts was new procedure which saved the sight of her relative.
Means her maj was getting blind and could not see well.
Unless she does an operation for the leg it means she has to be wheelchaired to her functions and that will be dramatic although her grandmother queen mary was wheelchaired to her events. Margaret and Queen Mum

Two more royal PR resignations
“Two of the Queen's most senior aides are to leave their jobs in the coming months, it emerged today. Sally Osman, the Director of Royal Communications, and Steve Kingstone, the Queen's Media Secretary, are leaving Buckingham Palace.” www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5938577/Queens-two-senior-PR-chiefs-leave-Palace.htmlLeaving, or deserting a sinking ship? “Meghan Markle is no longer the only American who has captivated Prince Charles’ heart. According to multiple sources, the 69-year-old Duke of Cornwall just tapped Meredith McCrindle, a Texan native, as his resident harpist at the Dumfries House in Ayrshire. McCrindle was spotted at the Dumfries House after she enrolled at St. Andrew for her postgraduate degree. She recently opened up about her new job for Prince Charles. “Music has always been my passion and to me, the harp is the ultimate instrument of musical expression. The highlight of any year is playing for His Royal Highness, especially for a girl from Texas, who dreamed of ballgowns and castles. It’s quite a big deal,” she said (via Express). McCrindle released an album called “When Walls Speak” this month. The harpist also said that she has already been introduced to some people from the showbiz industry. “It is my small contribution to the mission of Dumfries House. I had two film crews on me at one point. Rod Stewart was one of the celebrity guests. It was a star-studded affair I will remember forever,” she said. In related news, Prince Charles also made headlines earlier this month after he was mentioned by Prince Harry during his trip to Dublin. While at a garden party with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry made a joke at his dad’s expense. “As some of you may know, [the prime minister of Ireland] showed my father around his home city of Cork just a couple of weeks ago. So we are very grateful for you for joining us here this evening as well. And also very nice to know [Charles] didn’t bore you senseless,” Prince Harry said and the crowd broke out in laughter. During his speech, the 33-year-old prince also mentioned his wife, as well as his country’s relationship with Ireland. “We’re so pleased to be here, for our first official international visit together as a married couple, and we hope it will be the first of many. As each other’s closest neighbors, the U.K. and Ireland’s relationship is unique; our shared history is long and complex,” he said.” Is uk going to become America? Charles has hired an american resident harpist

Queen Victoria, major matchmaker
According to a recently-published book, Queen Victoria used her long holidays at Balmoral for match-making and peace-making schemes. I guess that most of her subjects never knew what was going on behind the scenes and thought that the royal marriages were fairytale romances. “BALMORAL became a matchmaking retreat for young princes and princess as Queen Victoria attempted to secure peace in Europe through her royal dynasty, according to a new book. Victoria and husband Albert had nine children and 42 grandchildren, with the likes of George V, German Emperor Wilhelm II and Russian Empress Alix going on to play key roles in world history. Author Deborah Cadbury explained: ‘Queen Victoria was running the world's most exclusive dating agency because only royals were worthy of consideration for her grandchildren. Albert believed the marriages of their children would in some way be able to facilitate peace in Europe and Victoria was pursuing that vision. The Napoleonic wars had devastated Europe and she wanted to shape the future of the continent, especially by forging an alliance with the German Empire.’ www.express.co.uk/news/uk/849350/Queen-Victoria-Balmoral-royal-matchmaking-peace-Europe

Queen Victoria’s Balmoral Games
There are some bizarre and chilling anecdotes about Queen Victoria’s efforts to vet candidates and bring about dynastic marriages: “The queen's beloved retreat on Royal Deeside became the setting for much of the romantic intrigue, with the striking scenery and harsh climate used to test the character of the young aristocrats. Ms Cadbury explained: ‘Several of the key matchmaking scenes happen at Balmoral. Victoria goes out for long carriage rides in all weathers with the latest prince or princess to be vetted. One princess was persuaded to break off her engagement to a Russian grand duke while she was at Balmoral and many of Victoria's efforts to find a bride for Prince Eddy took place there. Princess May, the last in a long sequence of princesses to be vetted for Eddy, was taken out on a ride and one of the maids described how part of the test was to gauge her reaction as they drove past an icy waterfall. Being able to appreciate the rigours of the Scottish countryside definitely won the queen's approval. Many of the most dramatic scenes at Balmoral involved Victoria's attempts to unite her two favourites, Princess Alix of Hesse and Eddy, who as Prince Albert Victor was in second in line to the British throne. Ms Cadbury said: ‘Victoria was astonished when Alix said she would not marry Eddy. She was being offered the premier royal position in Europe and instead she wanted to marry Nicky, who became Tsar Nicholas II.‘” www.express.co.uk/news/uk/849350/Queen-Victoria-Balmoral-royal-matchmaking-peace-EuropeThe icy waterfall test? Does the Queen use the Ice Bucket Challenge today? I wonder what Queen Victoria would think of today’s candidates for entry into the royal family.

Wallis Simpson at Balmoral
Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII partied at Balmoral while the disapproving Yorks stayed in nearby Birkhall. This picture of the notorious pair is from 1936. I wonder whether this is the icy waterfall that Queen Victoria used to test people with! If Wallis needs a fur coat, that kilt must be a bit chilly:

Birkhall salutes: just playing around?
The leaked video footage from 1933 that attracted a lot of attention two years ago is said to have been taken at Birkhall, which is part of the Balmoral estate and is featured in the Sussexes thread. Is this interpretation by a royal historian correct or is it just an attempt at damage limitation? “We are being told by some in the media that the publication of private footage taken at Birkhall – not Balmoral as claimed – of Edward, Prince of Wales (later the Duke of Windsor), with the Duchess of York (later Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother), and Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret is in the national interest, that it sets fascism and Nazism and the British reaction to it into historical context. Well, I have seen all the footage – I suspect this was filmed by the Duke of York (later George VI) – and it was nothing more than a family in private larking about for the camera. What was most interesting to observe was the comfortable relations between the future Edward VIII, his sister-in-law and nieces, which alas did not survive the abdication of 1936.” www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/queen-elizabeth-II/11749012/Queens-Nazi-salute-was-simply-larking-for-the-cameras.html

The Murdoch connection
I said on another thread that newspaper magnate Rupert Murdoch is reported to be sitting on a lot of scandalous information about the royals. He is not publishing it yet out of respect for the Queen; he will release it all after her death. I can’t help wondering what can possibly be worse than what has been coming out in recent years. Perhaps Murdoch has been thinking this too. Perhaps he is afraid of missing the boat so won’t wait another 10 years or so now. The Nazi salute story first appeared in The Sun, which is part of Murdoch’s empire. Was this an early sample of what is soon to come? I said in the post above that the story broke two years ago, but it was three. I can’t edit it.

Prince Charles was delusional about Diana
The wonderful fairy tale marriage was a nightmare right from the start. An extract from an article about yet another book about the royals: “PRINCESS Diana endured a nightmare honeymoon with Prince Charles who carried a photo of his former lover Camilla Parker Bowles with him in his diary, wore cufflinks with her initial on, and avoided her on a cruise, a new book claims. Charles and Diana started their honeymoon in 1981, in Broadlands —the Hampshire family seat of Charles's late great-uncle, Earl Mountbatten. They also went on a two-week cruise around the Mediterranean and Aegean, followed by several weeks at Balmoral in Scotland. On the cruise, the young bride was forced to spend her honeymoon with 21 naval officers, royal staff, and a crew of more than 200 men. Ms Junor writes: 'The whole thing was a disaster, serving only to demonstrate how very little they had in common. The Prince had wanted and envisaged a wonderful holiday in the sun, swimming, reading, painting and writing thank-you letters. So he'd taken along his watercolours, some canvases and a pile of books by the Afrikaner mystic and writer Laurens van der Post, which he'd hoped he and Diana might share and then discuss in the evenings.'” www.express.co.uk/news/royal/821840/Princess-Diana-Charles-honeymoon-nightmare-Royal-wedding-1981-affair-CamillaDelusion and wishful thinking! Prince Charles’s fantasies backfired spectacularly. Princess Diana was the last person to be interested in such books. I guess that they arrived at Balmoral feeling very disappointed in and disillusioned with each other.

Princess Diana at Balmoral
After the disastrous Mediterranean cruise, Prince Charles and Princess Diana went to Balmoral for several weeks. That was a failure too: she detested the place. Balmoral is in the middle of nowhere, with few attractions for people who prefer big towns. Activities such as walks, picnics, salmon fishing and barbecues would have little appeal for someone whose idea of a good time was shopping at Harvey Nicholls and lunching in smart Knightsbridge restaurants. Maybe she pretended to share his interests and enjoy country pursuits before they got married, then the real Diana emerged. Of course they put on a good show for the cameras, but look at what was - allegedly - happening behind the royal façade: “For six solid hours … Diana cried, paced around the room, kicked the furniture, ranted about everyone and everything to do with the place that she hated so much, and then fell into brooding silence before starting all over again. At five past four she suddenly said: 'I'm going upstairs,' and left the room… The Prince of Wales was mystified and despondent, as he didn't know what had gone wrong or how he was going to cope.” “Diana hated being at Balmoral in Scotland with Prince Charles during their honeymoon” www.express.co.uk/news/royal/821840/Princess-Diana-Charles-honeymoon-nightmare-Royal-wedding-1981-affair-CamillaThis makes me wonder what will happen if and when Meghan goes to stay at Balmoral. It is even less her scene that it was Princess Diana’s, considering the latter’s background.

Queen Mary: more revelations Avacyn said this a while back: “The likes of Mary of Teck were powerful, respected figures. They understood spin and publicity, in ways the current generation do not.” Much of this respect was the result of ignorance, lack of sophistication and the assumption that the real person and the impressive public images were the same. It really was all based on spin. I remember that the DM revealed that Queen Mary and George V were known in some circles as ‘fertile and futile’. They have published some more image-spoiling information about Queen Mary. It was collected by a biographer over 50 years ago but was confidential so was kept secret until recently. This is a sad story if true: “…Queen Mary’s father, the Duke of Teck, died ‘insane’, and … Queen Mary was never in love with the Duke of Clarence, to whom she was briefly engaged, nor with his younger brother, Prince George, whom she later married… the real love of Mary’s life was the 7th Earl of Hopetoun, a distinguished statesman: ‘She loved him in such a way that she had no love left after that.’“ This thread is well named! It really was all a Façade. www.dailymail.co.uk/home/books/article-6068063/The-Queen-mean-gave-friends-old-flowers.html

Queen Mary: unexpected revelations
More from the DM article mentioned above: “Mary hated her granddaughter, the frivolous Princess Margaret (the feeling was mutual), as well as Sandringham and Balmoral.” I am not surprised to learn that Queen Mary was not very fond of Princess Margaret. She probably resented someone who was selfish, fun-loving and carefree. But Balmoral and Sandringham? I thought that she would have loved them. They are on the way to church at Balmoral here - this must have been a bad time for here:
